Main Roles and Responsibilities

Concepting & Vision Holder

Part of the initial concepting team for this project. Aiding in initial research, setting up constraints and guidelines while also establishing and steering towards a core vision.

Gameplay & Boss Designer

Concepted mechanics and aestetics of boss.Whiteboxed & implimented tutorial room,camera behaviour & player controls.Balancing player weapons and enemy strength.Created and implimtented SFX & transitions.

Showcase Presenter

In charge of creating slideshows and giving bi-weekly presentations to stakeholders.Aided with live demos and showcases at events.Created and edited game trailer.

Project Description

Tackled in my first year of Game Design Studies, DIY Hero follows Elliot in his imagination as he quests to claim an entire cookie jar. The only thing standing in his way is.....a giant tomato monster.The goal was to create a boss battle game using extremely simple controls that a player of any skill level could pick up and enjoy, while more experienced players could still find fun within a challenge. Acomplished using a charming and inviting art style, a stick/single-attack button combo and cartoonishly-exaggerated tells for players to learn attack patterns.

Hub Level Design

Created Hub level where players can explore/experiment prior to the game starting
Implimented diagetic design to onboard the player to controls and actions
Created interactables where players can practice and hone mastery over the controls.

Transitions and Sound Design

Concepted and implimented Spash Screen, whever boss is awoken.
Created and implimented all the sound effects in the game.
Outsourced and directed all the music used for the game.

Presentations & Showcase

Created and presented bi-weekly updates to stakeholders.

Captured footage and edited into promotional trailer
Set up and presented game durring a university Showcase Day
Actively attracted, observed and answered questions from players during said showcase.
